When I learnt to drive the highway code clearly stated that when two people travelling in opposite directions both want to turn right at a cross roads , the turn behind each other , ( unless road markings told them otherwise ) . Having just got back from Manchester ( where nobody does this ) I decided to check the highway code only to discover the law has been changed and now you can turn however you like . http://www.findleys.co.uk/highway_code/road_junctions.html Is this a case of the establishment giving up ? They couldn't be bothered to enforce the law so they just changed it to suit the brain dead population . Toyota . RV Backup Light WiringBackup lights, also known as reversing lights, are lights mounted at the rear of a recreational vehicle (RV) that illuminate when the vehicle's transmission is engaged in reverse. It is typically desirable to switch the lights on manually for lighting up the area behind the RV when it is not in motion. Replacing existing reversing lights is a simple job, but wiring new ones is more complicated. Almost every vehicle will already have a wire in its loom dedicated to switching on backup lights, even if the lights themselves were not fitted by the manufacturer. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Eyelet connector Terminal ends (4 off) "Y" connectors (2 off) Wire Inline fuse Switch Backup lights Looming Zip ties Basic automotive electrical tool kit Step by Step : 1 Use an eyelet connector attached to the securing bolt of the chassis battery's positive terminal to create a power source --- a hot lead --- directly from the battery. This will prevent the backup lights from dimming when other equipment is switched on and reduces the risk of wiring crossover. Most backup lights sold use 55-watt bulbs, so use at least 16-gauge wire and a 15-amp fuse, inserted inline within 6 inches of the battery terminal. Remove the fuse while wiring the circuit. 2 Insert a "Y" junction into the hot lead, and run one spur to the location of the manual override switch. Connect it according to manufacturer's instructions in a place where it will be most convenient to use, either in the cab or protected from the elements at the rear of the RV. Run the switched hot lead to the location of the relay. At the most convenient point along this switched run, install a second "Y" junction and join it to the preexisting backup wire from the RV's loom or from the transmission or from the gear selector. In most U.S.-manufactured vehicles, this wire will be color-coded purple. 3 From the "Y" junction, run the other spur directly to the location of the relay. 4 Run a third wire to the location of the relay, which is connected at its other end directly to ground. 5 Run a fourth wire to the location of the relay, which will connect to the backup lights. 6 Wire the relay according to manufacturer's instructions. A typical Bosch relay used for this purpose will connect the unswitched hot wire to terminal 30; the switched hot wire to terminal 86; the relay ground to terminal 85; the wire to backup lights to terminal 87. 7 Connect the wire from the relay to the closest backup light, and then run it in series to the second backup light. 8 Ensure the backup lights are connected to ground. If they are mechanically fixed to a part of the RV body made of non-conductive material, it will be necessary to run a ground wire from each backup light to a ground. 9 Reinstate the inline fuse. Test the installation by first using the switch while the engine is switched off, then by switching on the RV engine and engaging reverse gear. Tips & Warnings Always use spiral looming sleeve to protect the wires from road abrasion and heat sources. Use plastic zip-ties to fix the new wires where they cannot cause a trip hazard and are protected from road abrasion and heat sources. Toyota . How to Remove a BMW 328I's Fog LightsFog lights illuminate the road during inclement weather conditions such as fog, rain and snow. The BMW 328I's fog lights are located low to the ground on the front bumper, underneath the car's headlights. This low placement directs the beams onto the road. Learning to remove your own fog lights is essential if you wish to replace the fog light bulbs or the plastic fog light encasement on your car's exterior. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Flathead screwdriver Step by Step : 1 Turn off your BMW 3281. Locate the car's battery, located in the battery compartment in the passenger side of the trunk. 2 Disconnect the battery by using a flathead screwdriver to unscrew the black cable connected to the battery. 3 Move to the front bumper area of your BMW 328I. Locate the plastic fog light covers on the bottom right and left corners of your bumper, underneath the headlights. 4 Insert your flathead screwdriver between the crevice of the plastic fog light cover and the bumper. Push the fog light cover out and toward you. Place it aside. 5 Turn the fog light bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the bulb socket. 6 Repeat Steps 3 through 5 to remove the fog light on the opposite side of your vehicle. Tips & Warnings Do not touch the glass part of the fog light bulb if you are planning to reinstall it. Touching the glass may damage the bulb. *Never "top off" a tank by adding fuel after the pump has shut off automatically. If you overfill your tank, the fuel may overflow the fill hole or leak out onto the road through an overflow outlet. This is not just a waste of your money; spilled gasoline ruins asphalt, pollutes the air, and is a fire hazard. This kind of leakage is especially prone to happen if it's a hot day and the gasoline in your tank expands. 6. Replace the cap on your fuel tank. Hotf to Open the Hood How can you do even simple "under-the-hood" jobs — such as checking the oil, antifreeze, and transmission fluid; refilling windshield wiper fluid; and checking accessory belts — if you don't know how to get the hood open? The good news is that opening the hood of a car is easy and uncomplicated — if you know how to do it. Although the location of the hood release may differ from one vehicle to the next, all releases work in pretty much the same way: v* In newer models, the hood release is often inside the vehicle, somewhere near the steering column or on the floor next to the driver's seat. (It generally displays the word Hood or a picture of a car with its hood up.) In older"models, the hood release is behind the grill or behind the bumper. 112

The purpose of the safety catch is to prevent the hood from accidentally coming open and obscuring your vision while you're driving. V Once the hood is up, it usually stays up on its own, unless you need to prop it up with a safety rod. If you haven't the faintest idea of how to get your hood open, head for the full-service bay the next time you go in for gas and ask the attendant to show you how to open the hood. You may pay a little more for fuel, but the lesson will be worth it, and you can get your windows washed and your tire pres sure checked for nothing! (If you're really short of cash, just ask for $5 worth of gasoline; the difference in cost will be negligible.) Part I: Getting Started. Here's how to open the hood of your car yourself: Toyota . What is cheaper a dwarf or a legend car?
GMC Yukon. * 1. Find your hood release and pop open the hood. Either consult your owner's manual, or try to remember the last time a service station attendant opened the hood of your car. Did he or she ask you to pull a lever inside the vehicle? Or did he or she go directly to the front grill? If the hood release is at the front of the car, look around and through the grill and feel under the grill and behind the bumper to find a handle, lever, arm, or button. Then pull, press, or push front to back and side to side on the thing you find until it releases the hood. If the hood release is inside the car, press, push, or pull it until you hear the hood pop open. The hood will open a little, but it will probably be stopped by the safety catch: a metal lever that, when pressed one way or the other, releases the hood so that it can open all the way. 2. With one hand, raise the hood as far as it will go. With the other hand, feel along the area between the hood and the grill for the safety catch. Release it and then raise the hood the rest of the way. 3. Secure the hood if necessary. Toyota . Is extra-premium oil unleaded?

If it doesn't, look for a safety rod that's attached either to the underside of the hood or to the bottom edge of the hood opening. Either lift or lower the rod (depending on where it's located) and fit the end of it into the slot that's provided to hold it in place. On some vehicles, the hood is held up by two gas-pressurized cylinders known as hood shocks. If the gas has leaked out of these units, be careful because the hood could come down at any moment. If that's the case, replace these units or secure the hood with a broom handle or similar object." The Safe Way to Use a Jack The most obvious reason to jack up a car is to change a tire, but other jobs, such as inspecting brakes, may also require you to get under the vehicle. (Even if you're reed-thin enough to squeeze yourself between the pavement and the underside of your car, you still need room to move around and manipulate tools.) Chapter 2 has detailed information about the different types of jacks, as well as items such as jack stands (essential) and creepers (nonessential, but nice). This section explains how to use a jack safely and efficiently. The next section shows you how to change a tire after the vehicle is in the air. Chapter 1: Things Every Driver Should Know 1 7 Jacks are used only to get a vehicle off the ground. They should never be used to hold a vehicle in place. Even if you're simply changing a tire, you need to make sure that you've blocked the other wheels so that the car doesn't roll off the jack. You must use jack stands when you work underneath your car; if you don't, you run the risk of serious injury or even death. People have been crushed to death when vehicles that were improperly secured fell on them. Before you attempt to jack up your vehicle, observe the following safety precautions: Never change a tire on a freeway or highway. Not only can you be seriously injured, but you can also fall prey to carjackers. Don't exit the car Toyota . Why are vented discs fitted to some high performance vehicles?
